How to Use Anchor Text in Backlinks

What's the best way to use anchor text to gain the best possible rankings from your link popularity campaign? Read on for tips and insight from the "SEO Guy" Morgan Carey into questions such as how Google views your vote for a site when you link to it and how they determine the value of your vote.

Anchor text and how to use it

The most important off page factor to securing high rankings in Google is appropriate anchor text pointing to the specific page of your website that has been optimized to target that term for that keyword phrase.

Anchor text defined

First off let's define anchor text. Anchor text is that portion of a hyperlink that is viewed by a user on a webpage (the clickable text). Here is an example: in html code, the link will be denoted with www.domain.com and the anchor text will be bolded as “ anchor text

Getting backlinks from .edu or .org sites

One thing that really helps your website's page rank is getting backlinks from an .edu site or a .gov site. In the past I have went to pages such as http://blogs.law.harvard.edu/ to find blogs to submit my links to. I don't really believe in spam and don't believe SEO has to be black hat so I would try to leave a comment that really added to the blog and just left a link to my site along with my comment.

You could also type in the Google search box: submit link site:.gov or submit link site:.edu. This is a great way to find link pages in these domains.

Now not every comment page has the same Page Rank. A good way to find the page rank of different pages is to use the Firefox page rank add on. It will show you the page rank of the page you are currently visiting. You can get that here https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/262/

Steal a High Ranking Blog and Get Their Traffic

A favorite trick of mine is to steal high ranking blogs and redirect them to my own websites. Blogger will at times delete blogs for reasons only they know. I like to find those blogs and use them to my own benefit. All of the time the original owner spent building back links and getting traffic is now to my benefit.

I suggest checking your own blogs from time to time to make sure they have not been deleted. If they have been register them again.

How do I find blogs that have been deleted? An easy way to find those blogs is to go to Google and enter the search phrase “your niche site:blogspot.com”. Replace your niche with whatever you are looking for. By doing this Google will restrict the search to only blogspot sites. Look through the top ten results. Chances are that one of these blogs has been removed.

You can then take the blog URL and register it as your own. Sometimes I will even take this blog and redirect it to another site, either to a review site of mine or directly to a product I am promoting.

How to Prevent Page Rank From Going to Unwanted Pages

Here's a quick way to prevent page rank from going to unwanted pages.

Below is used with permission from this money making program.

If you want to find the Page Rank of a site you can go to http://www.prsearch.net or you can get the PR extension for Firefox. Firefox is the online marketer’s best friend. Page Ranks change on a daily basis.

Your main web page is going to generally have a higher Page Rank then other pages on your site. You don’t want to pass your PR to your “disclaimer/terms of service” page, or “sitemap” page. This would be a waste of your PR.

The way to prevent PR from spreading to these unwanted pages is quite simple, yet very few know about it. I’m sure you are probably familiar with the html code to displace a clickable link. If not, it looks like this:

Now if you add a simple extra tag to this code it will prevent Google from spreading PR to it from your site. That tag is: rel="nofollow". It will be inserted into your code like this:

Note: I had to use a picture to explain this otherwise blogger will recognize it as a legitimate html tag.
